Twittering with the wind

Twittering with the wind

I went rollerblading with Adri and the boys on their bikes the other week. Along the beach and the Melbourne Bayside coastline. About a 7 km journey in one direction, then back to the house in the other…. with the wind.

It reminded me of being on the internet and learning these new things like facebook, twitter, blogs and VOIP…

There are a lot of journeys that you measure the distance against the wind, like going uphill, because you know getting the momentum going is the hardest thing. When you work and work and work, you seem to get nowhere, but then when you are on your way back, it all seems to be easy.

So think of the internet the same way. The most valuable things we learn and use, are those we studied for, and understand. Of course, getting a few tips along the way helps us learn faster, and gets us to that return, downwind journey faster.

So with that in mind, here are 7 tips for getting yourself a good result in Twitter (with thanks to the people I’ve learned from too!)

Twitter Tip #1

Use your primary name or business brand. People tend to search for friends to follow based on their research needs – like Chicago weather, CNN, barack obama, cricket…. internet! Combine your name with those, or just use a brand. I’m at www.twitter.com/coachmarkdavis because I am Coach Mark Davis at this website, online, in the offline world and in my instant message programmes.

Twitter Tip #2

Add 10 people per day to your list of people you are following in Twitter. Search for your favourite brands or keywords, and you’ll see how other people are using new programmes and widgets to automate their Twitterverse. It’s easy when you follow others.

Twitter Tip #3

Go to www.tweetdeck.com and register yourself. It presents your tweeting in and out and your replies and direct responses in such a way to make it easy to see.

Twitter Tip #4

Get an account at TweetMyBlog – see the pic on the right – and you’ll be able to link your typepad or wordpress blog directly to your twitter posting, which will update your followers and get them over to your website.

Twitter Tip #5

Activate Twitter as an application in your facebook account. Everytime you update Twitter through a direct message or a post in your blog (see above)  it will update your facebook status, keeping your account there active, and promoting yourself through others pages and feeds.

Twitter Tip #6

Get at www.twitpic.com account and post photos there. It will update your twitter with a link to the photo, which if you did everything above, will also update your facebook and give people something interesting to look at – all about you!

Twitter Tip #7

Get yourself a www.tweetlater.com account. This automatically adds people to your twitter list then allows you to automatically follow them. I get about 10 people a day doing this right now, and I just see it in my email inbox as business that is already taken care of! Then I can loginto to Twitter and see the new contacts posts and learn about them, just as they learn about me.

If the above is confusing… take it one step at a time.

Otherwise go for it, and get Tweeting!!

Live events and online training in 2009

Live events and online training in 2009

Now the tennis is over its time to get down to business. There is a series of events that I’m putting together to take all the online knowledge that I have gained in the last 3 years and put it into a 2009 series of events.

It combines tips and ideas on online marketing, focusing on social media, communication tools, advertising, attracting new prospects, making new friends, even finding the love of your life (which I did online).

There is no reason the internet cannot increase the effectiveness of any offline campaigns you do, and it is a great way to increase your branding in the international marketplace.

So I’m posting here, and in twitter, and facebook, and through a series of other promoters/affiliates, the events coming this year.

March: Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane

April: Singapore, Melbourne

May: UK, USA, Canada

June: NZ, Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Adelaide, Perth

The events will be both 3hr seminars and fullday workshops. If you are lucky you can find a way to qualify for a free ticket through the various promotions here at the site, and in the facebook group – Google Superman. Also, find my fan page there and join to get the latest updates, free ebooks and audio clips. I’ll also be podcasting live.

Tomorrow I’m speaking at the Australian International Furniture Fair, and will be Youtubing the workshop.

Next week its the Shoe fair, and the same – the retail training videos will be online soon after.

Can’t wait to meet you live in person and hoping that there will be a chance for you to get a free ticket!

Mark

P.S. Register at the list on the right to get the very best chance! Here at the site this private mailing list will give you the ideas and tips to keep you learning while you wait to find out about the free tickets when they come available up to 3 weeks prior to each event.
